🚛 Septic Tank Pumping

Routine pump-outs that remove the sludge and scum layers before they reach your drain field.

Pumping removes the settled sludge and floating scum from your septic tank. If those layers build up too far, solids wash into the drain field and can clog it, which is the most expensive part of the system to replace. The U.S. EPA says most household septic tanks should be pumped about every three to five years (EPA).

What a pump-out includes

  • Locating and uncovering the tank lid(s)
  • Pumping both compartments and hauling the septage to an approved disposal site
  • A visual check of baffles, the outlet filter (if there is one) and liquid levels

What it costs

Angi's 2026 data puts the national average at about $428, with most homeowners paying $292–$565 (Angi). HomeGuide gives a range of roughly $300–$700 (HomeGuide). Digging to find buried lids, a larger tank, or a long hose run can add to the bill. See our septic pumping cost guide.
