Licensing

  • North Carolina: Well contractors are certified by the NC Well Contractors Certification Commission. Level A contractors may construct all well types.
  • Georgia: Water well contractors are licensed by the Georgia EPD.
  • Tennessee and South Carolina: Drillers are licensed by TDEC and the SC LLR Environmental Certification Board.

Have new wells tested. The CDC recommends that private well owners test their water at least once a year for bacteria and other contaminants of local concern (CDC).
